Shot Gun Animation Tests

In getting back into animation this week my director had us do some shot gun tests, which basically consists of animating a given scene as quickly as we can. I did the punch in five minutes, it took longer because it had a few layers to work with.
The Dinosaur run was another shot gun test which took about 4 minutes, it had been a while since I'd done a walk cycle, and it's super rough, but the shot gun's are helping me to quickly flesh out what works, what doesn't and why on a basic level without investing too much valuable production time just to find out something doesn't work on a very basic level. for example the tail of the dinosaur dips around too much so that's something I can fix on the next sg test.

concept heads

The Director of the film already had a clear idea of the face, and wanted some ideas as to what the girl's hair should look like so these are just quick sketches of a bunch of different ideas for his to glance at, then I went and did some quickie rotations of the hair styles he liked to give him a better idea of how animate-able they would be.

some basic maya work

Some basic blocking I've been working on in Maya the finished scene should be about 10 seconds long of the man tossing a bone to the dog, and antics ensue. I'm still just getting the handle on the rig for the dog, it's more complicated than anything I've used before since I'm still a beginner. Check back later for a more finished version, complete with camera changes and all rendered out.

Sketching on the Farm

Sketches I did while on vacation at my grandparents farm in Tennessee. I was really excited to be able to draw the rabbits up close in their natural habitat.
